Gina Sheets was named Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director in early 2013, having served as the department’s Director of Economic Development & International Trade since 2009.
Born in Indiana, Gina has an extensive agriculture and economic development background. She and her husband Travis live in Clinton County, where they have built a diversified farm operation that included poultry, beef, aquaculture and a variety of fruit and produce, along with corn and soybeans.
Gina has also spent more than 13 years working in economic development, with ISDA as well as with Clinton County Economic Development and the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce. She has earned advanced accreditation in Economics from the International Economic Development Council, through the University of Oklahoma. Gina was graduated from Stanislaus State University in California, with a degree in Business Administration and was a two-term Auditor of Clinton County.
Gina and Travis have been host parents to seven exchange students from around the world, have hosted many international visitors at their farm and are engaged in agricultural and economic mission work in Liberia. Travis and Gina are very active in their community and were recognized as Clinton County’s Citizens of the Year in 2006. They are both Indiana Farm Bureau members and have participated in Farming the Classroom days. Gina is a Paul Harris Fellow and the first female president of Frankfort Rotary. She has literally traveled and ran all over the world as an ultra-marathon runner, winning her first 24 hour race in 2010 and once running 78 miles in a single, 24-hour period.
